Quattrocchi case:SC adjourns contempt writ hearing for 4 weeks
New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Supreme Court today adjourned for four weeks the hearing of contempt of court petition filed by an advocate against CBI Director and DIG for deliberately suppressing material facts from the apex court regarding the detention of main suspect in Bofors Gun Scandal Ottavio Quattrocchi by Argentinian authorities of February 6 and later his release on bail on February 23.
A bench comprising Justices C K Thakker and V S Sirpurkar adjourned the hearing after Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium informed the court that the extradition application filed by CBI in an Argentinian court is coming up for hearing on March 23 and CBI and the government have not committed any contempt of court as both the Union Government as well as the CBI have highest regard for this court.
The applicant, Ajay Kumar Aggarwal had contended that the conduct of CBI before this honourable court was not bona fide and the detention of Quattrocchi, a family friend of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, was deliberately not revealed to this court during the hearing on February 12.
The petitioner also alleged that the latest affidavit filed by CBI was also full of distortions and concealment of true facts.
Passport of Quattrocchi, against whom red corner notice by the Interpol has been issued, has been impounded and he cannot leave Argentina without prior permission of the competent court of that country.
