Nandigram and Chattisgarh incidents figure in Punjab assembly

Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) The Nandigram incident and the killing of policemen in Bijapur in Chattisgarh figured in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha here today.

Speaking in the House after the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Cooperation Minister Capt Kawaljit Singh warned that such incidents could happen in Punjab. '' On one hand, we talk of the economic growth rate, but on the other hand, social tensions and disparities were on the rise'', he noted.

'Such issues are a matter of concern and we must all save Punjab, so that similar incidents do not occur here'', he said while stressing on removing disparities in society.
