Mulayam to contest on two seats in assembly polls

Lucknow, Mar 16(UNI) Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today announced that he would contest the forthcoming assembly elections from two seats.

''I have been forced to contest the elections from two seats -- Gunnaur and Barthana-- on demand of the people and a directive from my party,'' he said.

''I have to obey the demand of the people and of the party workers,'' he told mediapersons here.

At present, the CM is a sitting member from Gunnaur assembly seat in Badaun district.

Mr Yadav is slated to file his nominations from Barthana seat in Etawah district on March 20, the last day of filing of the nominations, Polling the would be held in the first phase on April 7.

For Gunnaur seat, the CM will file his nominations on March 28.

Polling is scheduled to be held there in the third phase on April 18.
