LS passes Supplementary Demands for Grants; adjourned till 1530 hrs

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Amid slogan-shouting by the Opposition over the Nandigram violence, the Lok Sabha today hurriedly passed the Supplementary Demands for Grants (General) for 2006-07 by a voice vote without discussion before the House was adjourned for a third time till 1530 hrs.

Amid pandemonium over the issue of police firing in Nandigram which left 14 people dead, the House also passed by voice vote without discussion the Appropriation (Vote on Account Bill) 2007 after the Bill was introduced by Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

Even as members of the Opposition NDA shouted slogans, demanding the dismissal of the Buddhadeb Bhattacharya government in West Bengal, Presiding Officer V V Radhkrishnan asked the Finance Minister to reply to the discussion on the General Budget.

After the Finance Minister's reply, two Bills -- Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill 2007 and National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill 2007 -- were hurriedly taken up and passed by voice vote without discussion.

While the Bill on Banking Regulation, which replaces an ordinance, was moved for consideration by Mr Chidambaram, the one on pharmaceutical was moved for consideration by Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ram Vilas Paswan.
