Gender budgeting cells set up in 50 departments
New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Gender budgeting cells have been set up in 50 Central ministries/Departments, the Lok Sabha informed today.
Minister of State for finance Pawan Kumar Bansal in a written reply said the budget provisions schemes that are substantially meant for the benefit of women as identified by the various Ministries/Departments in their budget allocations for 2007-08.
He said gender budgeting is an evolving area where with better understanding of the requirements, programmes/schemes are being continuously reviewed to make a more realistic assessment of the flow of budgetary resources and their potential to impact and address the development needs of women.
He said setting up of gender budgeting cells is a step towards providing an institutional mechanism to monitor gender budgeting and strengthen the capacity of line ministries/departmetns in the formulation of gender sensitive programmes/schemes, their proper implementation and impact analysis.
