Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) An eight-member West Bengal Pradesh Congress delegation today called on Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and urged him to give a 'detailed report' to the Centre about the Nandigram massacre besides seeking its immediate intervention.

Led by WBPCC working president Pradip Bhattacharya and the party's chief whip in the state assembly Manas Bhunia, the delegation members also congratulated the governor for his 'bold stand' on the issue and for visiting the injured at the Tamluk hospital yesterday.

Speaking to newspersons after meeting the governor, Mr Bhattacharya and Dr Bhunia informed that a three-member AICC team, likely to be led by Dr Karan Singh, would arrive here by tomorrow to visit Nandigram and talk to the victims there the next day about the March 14 incident.

They said a five-member Pradesh Congress team had already visited Nandigran and neighbouring Sonachura area to take stock of the situation and for providing medical relief to the injured.

Alleging that more than 100 people were believed to have been killed in the 'state sponsored massacre', Dr Bhunia claimed that most of the bodies had either been buried in far off places or dumped in the local canals and rivers.

''The recovery of two bodies in neighbouring Howrah district today bore a testimony to that belief,'' Dr Bhunia said and reiterated his party's demand for an immediate Central intervention.

''We have also promised the governor to provide the correct and not exagerated information about the death toll to help him file the report to the Centre,'' the PCC working president informed to a query.
