Censure motion amended but opposition continue boycott

Patna, Mar 16 (UNI) In view of the ongoing boycott of Bihar assembly proceedings by the opposition barring Samajwadi Party,the state government today proposed some minor amendments to the censure motion passed in the house on Monday denouncing the behaviour of 'certain members'.

The amendment as adopted by the house today replaced the phrase 'certain members' by names of five RJD members. The opposition, however,refused to relent and announced their resolve to continue the boycott until the censure motion was withdrawn in toto. As the house assembled, BJP's Bhola Prasad Singh raised the issue of boycott of the assembly by the opposition and said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had appealed to them to withdraw their boycott but the situation continued to remain unchanged.

The Speaker had also held parleys with the opposition leaders to end the deadlock, he noted and demanded that the house should be informed on the developments in this regard.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ramashrya Prasad Singh said the government was forced to move censure motion as behaviour of some of the opposition members in the house was not in accordance with its decorum.He introduced an amendement in the censure motion earlier adopted by the house and added names of five RJD members instead of 'certain members' as mentioned in the original motion.

Later talking to reporters, leader of the opposition Rabri Devi said the amendment in censure motion had proved that the earlier motion was 'wrong'. Other opposition members also echoed her sentiments during interaction with reporters.

The opposition leaders lamented that the government had not apologised for moving the censure against them which smacked of an 'arrogant' attitude.

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said the motion adopted in the house on March 12 was not against the entire opposition but denounced the behaviour of certain members which was not in accordance with the decorum of the house.Names of these members had been included through amendment in the motion, he added.

''If floor leaders of the political parties apologise for derogatory behaviour of their members in the house, then the state government could consider withdrawal of the motion,'' he maintained.
