Bail granted to accused in Memon shoot-out case

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) A MCOCA court here today granted bail to Glen Issac Peter alias Michael, accused in the shoot-out case involving criminal lawyer Majid Memon, due to lack of concrete evidence.

Issuing an order, Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) judge Abhay Thipsay said there is no substantial evidence against accused Michael in the chargesheet filed by the prosecution.

Judge Thipsay released him on a bail of Rs One lakh and directed him to report to the Kandivali Crime Branch unit twice a month during the office hours and submit his passport to the investigating agency.

Advocate Sushan Kunjuraman, representing Michael, had filed the bail application on grounds that the chargesheet was incomplete, fabricated and relevant panchanamas were not made and termed it as unlawful detention implication of an innocent person in the case. He further stated that police did not annex the final report form under section 173 of CrPC, there was no arrest panchanama of the applicant and of the alleged transcript of conversation with Ravi Poojari.

It may be recalled that the accused was arrested in a shoot-out case involving senior criminal lawyer Majid Memon near his residence at Bandra in western suburbs in 2005.
