Australia's Nobel prize winner meets AP CM

Hyderabad, Mar 16 (UNI) Co-winner of Nobel Prize for the Medicine in 1996, Profesosr Peter Doharty of Australia along with the Australian High Commissioner to India, John Mc Carthy called Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at the Secretariat here today.

According to an official release, the Nobel Laureate evinced keen interest in the development of Biotechnology in the State. He also enquired about the political life of the Chief Minister.

Welcoming Peter, the Chief Minister said India was the largest and a vibrant democratic country. The voting percentage would be more in rural areas compared to urban areas, which was quite contrary to the pattern observed in Western countries.

Dr Reddy informed Doharty that his state was the leader in pharma industry in the country. ''Our economy is growing very well and the growth rate is 9.2 per cent with general buoyancy in all sectors'', he told Doharty.
