New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) Expressing anguish over the killing of farmers in Nandigram in West Bengal, former Prime Minister and Jana Morcha founder leader VP Singh today called for a stop to land acquisition for creating Special Economic Zones.

''If industrialists want to set up SEZ, they should buy the land from farmers on the market price,'' Mr Singh said at a press conference here.

He said he would soon write to West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and advise him to talk to farmers.

''I am deeply pained over what has happened in Nandigram. The process of land acquisition should be stopped immediately, as it was unjust to deprive farmers of their fertile land,'' he said.
