Transport policy for rural areas

Bhopal, Mar 15 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government will formulate a policy to improve transport facilities in rural areas, Transport Minister Himmat Kothari told the Assembly today.

Replying to the budgetary demands for 2007-08 for the Transport department, Mr Kothari said the government had started providing driving licenses in schools and getting vehicles registered through dealers on an experiment basis.

He described the government's decision to shut down the Madhya Pradesh State Road Transport Department as appropriate saying it was necessary to close down the department as it was running in loss.

Participating in the debate, Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi opposed the decision to shift bus stand for buses plying to Indore from Nadra bus stand to Lalghati.

She demanded the decision must be taken back for the convenience of passengers.

After the discussion, the Rs 29.59 crore budgetary demands of the Transport department was passed by the House.
