Kolkata, Mar 15 (UNI) The proccedings of the West Bengal Assembly today began on a stormy note when the opposition TMC members gheraoed Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and shouted slogans protesting against yesterday's police firing in Nandigram.

Wearing black badges, the Trinamool Congress members, who were waiting for the chief minister to come in, surrounded him as soon as he entered the house.

They shouted slogans at the top of their voice decrying the police action and demanding that Mr Bhattacharjee should resign as Home Minister.

The agitation came a day after at least 14 people including five women were killed in the Nandigram area, where the administration sent forces to take control of the area that remained inaccessible to the outsiders following the resistance by the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committtee members, a platform of opposition parties spearheading against the movement of land acqusition in the state.

However, the chief minister remained unfazed as the slogan shouting continued for a few minutes before the TMC members allowed him to take seat.

Mr Bhattacharjee is scheduled to make a statement on the Nandigram incident in the assembly today.
