Police constable among 2 killed, hideout busted in J and K

Srinagar, Mar 15 (UNI) A constable of Jammu and Kashmir police was among two persons killed, while a hideout was busted and a huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered in the state overnight.

An official spokesman said militants fired upon a police party at Pinjrari Dachhan in Doda district of Jammu region last night. Police personnel also retaliated and in the exchange constable Shanti Swaroop was killed. Militants later managed to escape, he said.

He said a hideout was smashed by police at Chowkibal in the frontier district of Kupwara and a huge cache of arms and ammunition including two pistols, 170 rounds, one wireless set, seven UBGL and five hand grenades were recovered. However, no one was arrested.

Official sources said a girl was killed when a weapon of his father, a member of the Village Defence Committee (VDC), went off at Doda last night.
