LS adjourned for the day over Nandigram violence

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was today adjourned for the day without transacting any business as a determined Opposition stalled the proceedings of the House on the Nandigram issue.

The House earlier witnessed three adjournments at 1200 hrs, 1230 hrs and 1400 hrs.

As soon as the House re-assembled at 1400 hrs, BJP-led Opposition members again trooped into the well of the House, demanding the dismissal of the West Bengal government following the police firing in Nandigram yesterday which led to the death of 12 people.

Angry NDA members indulged in slogan-shouting even as the Treasury benches remained silent.

Amid the din and within minute of the house re-assembling, Deputy Speaker Charnjit Singh Atwal, who was in the chair, adjourned the Lower House for the day.

Earlier, as soon as the house began the day's sitting, agitated BJP-led Opposition members were on their feet, shouting slogans, demanding the dismissal of the West Bengal government. Amid the chaos, the Deputy Speaker had adjourned the house till 1200 hrs.

When the house re-assembled, the Opposition members again trooped into the well of the house shouting slogans against the CPI(M) government in West Bengal and waving today's newspapers.

In the melee, Mr Atwal rushed through a few business matters slated for the day and adjourned the house for another half-an-hour till 1230 hrs.

Even as the BJP members were shouting slogans, RJD members had demanded that the house discuss naxal violence in BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh where about 30 security personnel were reported to have been killed early today.
