Ivory smugglers sent to jail
Dehra Dun, Mar 15 (UNI) Two people, who were arrested by the forest officials for allegedly smuggling two elephant ivories weighing 19.1 kg in Rasulpur area in Rajaji National Park on Tuesday, were sent to jail after being produced before a court today.
DFO Chila Range Girija Shankar Pandey yesterday said on a tip-off, a team of Forest Range Officers raided village in Rasulpur in Haridwar district at 2200 hrs and arrested Shankar Datt and Jagdish Chandra and recovered the ivories from them that measured 1.38 metres each and collectively weighed 19.1 kg.
Both of them had been taken into custody and a high-level inquiry ordered, Mr Pandey said.
