CPI(M), TRS want govt to stop Babli project in Maharashtra

Hyderabad, Mar 15 (UNI) CPI(M) and TRS today demanded the government take immediate steps to ensure the Babli project on River Krishna in Maharashtra was immediately stopped.

CPI(M) leader Nomula Narasimhaiah and TRS leader Dr G Vijayarama Rao alleged the Maharashtra government was illegally constructing the project without clearances and said Telangana would turn into a desert if the project was completed.

Both the parties today gave notice for adjournment motions on the matter, which were disallowed by Speaker K R Suresh Reddy. He said they could raise the issue during the debate on irrigation demands or if they give notice under a diferrent rule, it could be discussed.

The Speaker also disallowed adjournment motions of CPI(M) and CPI on placing the Koneru Ranga Rao report on alienated government lands, of BJP on the toddy tappers problems, Janata Party on imlementation of Rajiv Gruha Kalpa project in the Metpalli constituency, BSP on alienation of tribal lands and CPI (ML-New Democracy) on placing the Girglani Committee report on the table of the House.

Responding to the demand of placing the Koneru Ranga Rao report, Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said it was not a secret document and the government was ready to place it on the table of the House. A question on the matter had alrady been admitted and the government would place the report when it cames up.
