Cong poser to BJP on Naxalite violence in Chhattisgarh

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) The Congress today condemned the Naxalite violence in tribal Dantewada region of Bastar in Chhattisgarh and asked the Bharatiya Janata Party to introspect as to why, in spite of getting all the support from the Centre, the BJP-ruled state was topping in the number of deaths due to Naxalite attack.

''While we must condemn the Naxalite violence, we cannot help ask the party to look within and ask why this state accounted for 57 per cent of the total number of deaths due to Naxalite attacks in the country,'' Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.

Similarly, he asked why Chhattisgarh accounted for 47 per cent of the Naxalite incidents in the country. This figure was quite high, he said.

He recalled that during the debate in Parliament on internal security, it was stated that the Centre was providing every logistic and manpower support, like armoured vehicles, weapons and helicopters time and again, to the Chhattisgarh Government to tackle Naxalite menace.

Why were then incidents of such gruesome nature taking place in Chhattisgarh, Mr Singhvi said and added the state government should look within to find out whether it was intelligence failure that had led to this incident.

Asked whether this incident warranted imposition of President's Rule in the state, Mr Singhvi said it was not the remedy for every malady.
