Brinda hails HC directive for CBI probe into Nandigram killings

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat today hailed the Calcutta High Court directive for a CBI inquiry into the Nandigram police firing that killed 14 people and left over 40 injured.

''We have no problem with CBI or judicial inquiry,'' Ms Karat said while addressing a press confrence here.

The West Bengal Government wants the truth to come to light.

''Our government is unambiguous in that and we are ready for any CBI or judicial inquiry'', she added.

Earlier in the day a two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar, took up the case suo motu and issued a directive, saying no one could imagine such an incident in a democracy.

The court directed the CBI to submit its report within seven days.
