BJP releases list of 181 candidates for MCD polls

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janta Party today released its first list of 181 candidates for the coming MCD polls in Delhi, scheduled for April 5.

Prominent among the names in the list, which includes 92 women, are senior party leaders Vijender Gupta and Subhash Arya.

While 76 of the women included in the list are in general category, 16 are in the reserved category.

Releasing the list, BJP Delhi Pradesh president Harshvardhan said in drawing the list of candidates, efforts had been made to select the best workers.

The Selection Committee had after intensive study, scrutinised all the applications and selected the candidates who are the best and capable of winning the election, he said.

''The Committee very well knows that there is no dearth of capable workers in the Party for contesting the elections from each ward whose list has been declared today. The compulsion was that only one worker could be given ticket,''he said.

Dr Harshvardhan told that services of those workers who have not been fielded in the election due to some ''indispensible reason'', would be utilised at other places.

The BJP Pradesh President said that this time the result of MCD elections shall decide whether ''Delhi is to be left for the corrupt, despotic and unjust Congressmen or a new chapter is to begin in the history of Delhi with the big victory of BJP in which besides a clean, healthy and honest administration for the people of Delhi, such Municipal Corporation is to be made which will stand to the test of the people of the capital.'' The second and final list of BJP candidates for the polls is likely to be declared tomorrow.
