Baalu approves road repair works in Maharashtra
New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) Union Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu has approved a sum of Rs. 1740.29 lakh for road repair works in the various stretches of Surat-Dhule-Nagpur Road on NH-6 in Maharashtra.
NH-6 is an important National Highway connecting the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
As part of the project, an amount of Rs. 460.14 lakh has been sanctioned for strengthening the stretch from km 170 to km 173/600 and km 186 to 188. This stretch suffered heavy damage during monsoons. The pavements have sunk and the road is distressed at various places resulting in poor riding quality.
On the same highway, an amount of Rs. 436.61 lakh has been sanctioned for strengthening of the stretch from km 360 to km 369 while a sum of Rs. 433.61 lakh has been sanctioned for strengthening of km 640 to km 649. These stretches have developed longitudinal and edge cracks and need to be strengthened and improved.
An amount of Rs. 409.93 lakh has been sanctioned for strengthening of km 632 to km 640 on the highway. Due to heavy rains, this stretch has developed large cracks and potholes and needed strengthening.
After the completion of the these repair works, the road conditions and riding quality would improve considerably on the Surat-Dhule-Nagpur stretch of NH-6, an important Highway connecting Maharahshra and Gujarat, a ministry official said today.
