49 nominations filed on day 3 for phase I of UP poll

Lucknow, Mar 15 (UNI) Altogether 49 nominations were filed on the third day of the first phase of Uttar Pradesh election, in which polling will be held for 62 assembly seats on April 7.

Now, 61 candidates are in fray for the first phase of election.

Of the total nominations filed today, 11 each belonged to the ruling Samajwadi Party and BSP respectively, while BJP and Congress candidates accounted for five and one respectively.

Prominent among those, who filed nominations includes state PWD minister and SP candidate Shivpal Singh Yadav from Jaswantnagar, Badshah Singh of BSP from Hamirpur, SP's Ram Swaroop Singh from Sarvankhera and Rajendra Kumar Tiwari of BSP from Govindnagar.

Altogether five nominations each were filed for Sarvankhera and Govindnagar seats.

One nomination by BSP's Anil Shukla was filed for the Bilaur Lok Sabha seat for which the by-election would be held along with the first phase of polling.

March 20 is the last date of filing nomination and on the next day scrutiny of papers would be done. Candidiates can withdraw nomination till March 23.
