Kolkata, Mar 14 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today called a 12-hour 'Bangla bandh' on March 16 in protest against police firing which killed 14 people in Nandigram.

The Trinamool Congress, congress and BJP have also called for a bandh on the same day in protest against the police firing.

In a press conference, SUCI general secretary Provash Ghosh alleged that mass killings had been carried out by the ruling party in Nandigram.

He said while nine people died at Nandigram hospital, six more died at Tamluk hospital.

''It is government-sponsored terrorism and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and his administration were safeguarding the interests of Tata and Salim groups,'' he claimed.

A two-minute silence will be observed on March 17 as a mark of respect to those killed by the police and demonstrations will be staged in front of District Magistrate's offices on March 18 throughout the state, he added.
