Snow and rain intensifies cold wave in HP

Shimla, Mar 14 (UNI) Continuing snow and rain in Himachal Pradesh has plummeted temperatures and intensified cold wave conditions in the state, the met office said today.

Dhundhi, Solang Nullah and Bhang Manali in Kullu district experienced 59 cm, 12 and 20 cm of fresh snowfall respectively, while Keylong and Patiso in Lahaul Spiti received about 27 and 29 cm of snowfall during the last 24 hours.

The met office said Kalpa and Kaza in Kinnaur also recorded 21.8 cm and 14 cm of fresh snowfall, which plummeted night temperatures in the entire tribal areas. The minimum temperatures were recorded between minus 15 and minus 25 degrees Celsius.

Almost all high altitude areas, peaks, valleys and passes of the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti, Chamba and Kullu experienced intermittent snowfall during the last 24 hours, while rains lashed the mid and lower hills of the state.

Chitkul and Asrang Valley in Pooh sub division in Kinnuar district of the state were under five feet of snow, while Pangi and Bharmaur areas of Chamba district continued to remain cut off from the rest of the state following heavy snowfall during the last five days.

Vehicles were plying normally on the 320 Km Hindustan-Tibet National Highway up to Wangtoo in Kinnuar district, official sources said, adding that power and telecommunication were also disrupted due to heavy snowfall.
