Mizoram to be corridor to the east
Aizawl, Mar 14 (UNI) Mizoram Governor Lt Gen (Retd) M M Lakhera has assured to soon transform Mizoram into a corridor to the east.
Addressing the tenth session of fifth state Assembly yesterday, Mr Lakhera said the Centre under the 'Look East Policy' had agreed to take up two major projects for the economic deelopment of the state.
''Rs 7,459 million Kaldan Multi-Modal Transport project, will link the region with Sittwe port in Myanmar, providing a much-needed access by sea,'' he said.
He also said Triangular Road project would link the state with east and north Myanmar, connecting Rih village on Mizoram-Myanmar border with Falam and Tiddim.
The Border Roads Organisation have submitted a detailed project report of Rs 711.47 crore for the purpose.
He also said under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme, the government had fixed a target of providing safe drinking water to 134 habitations during 2006-07 of which only 47 habitations were covered.
