JD(U) retains Islampur seat
Biharsharif, Mar 14 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) today retained the Islampur assembly seat after defeating the UPA the March 11 bypolls.
JD(U) candidate Pratima Sinha secured 42,823 votes, while UPA candidate and CPI leader Rakesh Kumar Roshan got 33,491 votes, official sources said.
CPI(ML) candidate Sudhir Kumar scored 5,344 votes while three other candidates lost their deposits.
Six candidates were in the fray for the seat.
The by-election was necessary in Islampur after JD(U)'s Ram Swaroop Prasad resigned after being elected to Lok Sabha from Nalanda Parliamentary seat in a bypoll.
