Hectic parleys among Cong, Morcha, RLD; result likely tonight
New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) Hectic parleys among top leaders of the Congress, the VP Singh-led Jana Morcha and the Rashtriya Lok Dal of Ajit Singh continued late into this evening in a bid to hammer out an alliance for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, and a final decision was expected tonight, according to sources.
They, however, said annoucement would be made tomorrow.
Jana Morcha convenor Raj Babbar today had a meeting with Congress MP from the state Rahul Gandhi and there were some ''positive signs', a source in the Morcha said.
UPCC chief Salman Khurshid is also in the capital and has held several rounds of meeting with the Morcha and RLD leaders.
Mr VP Singh and Mr Babbar have already met Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The parties forming the Jan Morcha include the CPI, CPI(M-L), the Indian Justice Party headed by Udit Raj and some smaller parties.
Besides it has also in its fold the NCP and the LJP.
The BSP has already declared that it would go it alone in the polls.
The CPI-M has decided to go with the Samajwadi Party. The Samata Party also today announced that it would campaign for the SP in the elections on the principle of ''non-Congressism'' despite the poll alliance between the BJP, Apna Dal and the Janata Dal(U).
BJP's chief minsterial candidate Kalyan Singh and state pary chief Kesarinath Tripathi were also in the capital to discuss seat distribution among the alliance partners wih their top leaders.
The notification for the first phase of Assembly polls beginning April 7 was issued yesterday.
