Fernandes asks doctors to maintain professional ethics

Mangalore, Mar 14 (UNI) National Democratic Alliance Convener George Fernandes has called upon medical graduates to be committed to the oath taken by them to maintain professional ethics in their life.

Speaking after inaugurating the endowment instituted at Fr.Muller's Charitable Institution in the name of his brother late Lawrence Fernandes, the former Bangalore Mayor, here last night, he said young doctors should serve the poor and downtrodden sections of the society by providing healthcare and contributing to build a healthy society.

Referring to his political career, the former Union Minister said his experience had shown him that honest Ministers and elected representatives, committed to their oath, were rare to find. ''As a Parliamentarian, I have not made any major contribution, but have only discharged my duty,'' he added.

He said his brothers and himself have decided to donate the assets of late Lawrence Fernandes to the Fr.Muller's Charitable Institution. The endowment had been set up in his brother's name in the urology department to help the poor patients, irrespective of caste and creed, suffering from kidney related problems.

On the occasion, the first Fr.Muller's Charitable Institution awards were given to Sister Maria Theresa, the Founder-Principal of Fr.Muller College of Nursing, and renowned homoeopathy doctor from Mumbai Dr Kumara Mitra Chandra Dhawale for their outstanding contributions to the field of medical services.
