Bhopal, Mar 14 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi today informed the Assembly that district collectors would be authorised to fill up doctors' vacancies in hospitals.

Replying to supplementaries by Mr Ramlakhan Sharma (Communist Party of India-Marxist) during Question Hour, he admitted that several such vacancies existed.

''Besides creating posts, the government is also considering amending the recruitment process,'' the Minister explained.

In reply to another question, Mr Vishnoi said about 600 ampules of antidote were supplied to the local Jayaprakash Hospital as the number of fatal snakebites had increased. ''The figure is about 730 over the past seven months,'' he revealed.

Pointing out that Burhanpur's Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital was not functioning as the municipal corporation had taken possession of the building, the Minister added that an effort was being made to render the hospital operational.
