Din prevails in Uttarakhand Assembly, House adjourned once

Dehradun, Mar 14 (UNI) Uttarakhand Assembly was adjourned for 30 minutes on the second day of the first session of newly elected State Assembly here today.

Chief Minister B C Khanduri proved his majority in the house amid the noise.

As soon as speaker Harbans Kapoor entered the House a total din prevailed when leader of the main opposition Congress party Harak Singh stood on his feet and started demanding a discussion on the incident of the circulation of obscene MMS of a local girl that evoked an attack on the shops owned by a particular community by the students under the organisation of another community at Srinagar, Pauri District three days ago.

Mr Rawat, supported by his party members and members of the Bahujan Samaj Party, said communal hatred was being instigated. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Repeated plea of the Speaker yielded no results and he reminded them that the plea has been accepted under rule 58. But the opposition members continued to demand immediate discussion shouting slogans such as''Gundaraj nahin chalegi'' and ''Sampradayi sarkar (Communal Government) nahin chalegi''.

When the Speakers plea fell on deaf ears, he adjourned the House at 1115 hrs for half an hour.

At 1145 hrs the House reassembled and proceedings went on without any disruption. Chief Minister Maj Gen (Retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri proved his majority with 39 members raising hands in his support as against 8 from the Bahujan Samaj Party raising hands against the resolution.

Congress MLAs had earlier staged a walk out criticising the government for over expenditure of public exchequer in organising the CM's swearing in ceremony.
