Death toll mounts to seven in house collapse

Mumbai, Mar 14 (UNI) The death toll rose to seven today when four more bodies of labourers were recovered from the debris of a collapsed underconstruction hotel structure near Royal Palm Pvt Ltd, Goregoan, in western suburbs.

Police said the dead labourers were identified as Babu Thakur Rathod (35-supervisor), Vijay Lakhindar Mandal (30), Laxman Balaram Rathod (35), Anil Kashinath Chavan (18), Chandrakant Gaund (55), Ratan Mandal (27) and Mahiru Kishan Chavan (18).

Vinay Mandal (50), Raju Mandal (24), Sushil Mandal (25), Tapan Shreedhar Mandal (30), Kuthya Chavan and Bhagirathi Harijan (age not known) were injured in the accident.

They were admitted in Holy Spirit, Bhagwati and Kancha hospitals in western suburbs.

The underconstruction structure of the proposed Hotel Villa collapsed around 1730 hours yesterday, killing three labourers and injuring five, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivajirao Bodke told UNI.

Police said the structure collapsed as poor quality of material was used for the construction by the contractor.

A case has been registered against Parvez, Kashid (both site engineers), Hidavat and Sayyed Ejazali (contractors). All the four persons were absconding since yesterday, police added.
