CPI(M) wants power subsidy to weavers revived

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) The CPI(M) today urged the government to revive subsidy given to weavers on power consumption stating they were the second largest community committing suicides after farmers.

Making a Zero Hour mention in the Assembly, he said the subsidy being paid since 1986 was suddenly stopped and the electricity authorities were disconnecting connections of those who could not pay their bills.

Power Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir said the matter was represented to him and he had asked authorities to enquire into it. He promised proper action after he received the report.

Mr A Govinda Naik (TRS) wanted a sub-registrar office in Khanapur in Adilabad District. He said farmers were being forced to go to Nirmal which was far away as there was no sub-registrar office.

CPI Member P Venkateswarlu complained that the government had not taken up Pulusavanta Project though engineering survey was completed ten months ago.

He said the project would provide water to 5,000 acre in the agency area in the Khammam District and reminded that it was one of the promises made by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy after he became the Chief Minister.

Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy assured the member that every promise made by the Chief Minister would be fulfilled.
