Centre to implement scheme to train rural sports talents

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The Union Cabinet is likely to clear a major scheme within a few weeks to identify promising sportspersons at the panchayat level and impart training to them, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Replying to questions on preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the capital city, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar said a sum of Rs 3002 crore had been projected as the total expenditure for the conduct of this major sports event. Out of this, Rs 770 core would be the share of the Delhi government to create civic infrastructure.

He assured that all the games-related projects would be completed in time for the Commonwealth Games.

Mr Aiyar said it would not be possible to estimate the number of visitors for the Games.

However, the government had started creating accommodation facilities for the visitors of the games and also for tourists beyond the games.
