Abu Salem knocks at doors of judiciary

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) Desperate to contest the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly poll, incarcerated underworld don Abu Salem has knocked the doors of the judiciary.

Salem has filed a writ petition in the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court challenging the non-inclusion of his name in the voter list of Azamgarh district in UP.

Justice Rajiv Sharma today issued notices to UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Azamgarh District Magistrate and Nizamabad Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in the case.

The petitioner contended his name had not been included in the voter list of Pathantola locality of Saraimeer in Nizamabad tehsil of Azamgarh.

The SDM and CEO had already dismissed Salem's application in this regard.

The writ challenges the orders of SDM and CEO rejecting the don's application praying for including his name in the voter list.
