A sunny day but cold winds bring down mercury

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) A slight chill continued to persist in air in Delhi for the fourth consecutive day today even as the sun emerged from the clouds.

The sunlight notwithstanding, cold westerly winds sweeping through Delhi brought down the mercury.

While the maximum dropped to 23.2 Degrees Celsius from yesterday's 23.7 Degrees C, the minimum temperature also fell to 13.3 Degrees C.

The maximum was seven degrees below normal while the minimum was two degrees below normal.

The chill in the air could persist for a few more days with the weathermen forecasting a further dip in the night temperature in the coming days under the influence of the cold northwesterly winds.

''Strong northwesterly winds are likely to prevail over Indo-Gangetic plains commencing from tomorrow onwards. Consequently, the decreasing trend in night temperatures is likely to continue over the region during the next 48 hours,'' the weather office said.

At the same time, they have forecast a rise in day temperatures in the coming days.

The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours.

The hot and Sunny weather conditions in Delhi in the past week gave way to a wet and chilly weather on Sunday night as moderate to heavy rains lashed the capital on Monday.

The rainfall led to a sharp drop in maximum temperature in Delhi to 21.3 Degrees Celsius, nine degrees below normal. The drastic fall in mercury lent a chill in the air for the first time in the post-Holi period, which normally marks the onset of summer.
