8 nominations filed on day 2 for phase I of UP poll

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) Altogether eight nomination papers were filed on the second day of the first phase of Uttar Pradesh election, in which polling will be held for 62 assembly seats on April 7.

Now 12 candidates are in fray after four nominations were filed on the opening day.

Two nominations -- Amar Singh of RLD and Rameshwar Dayal of Rashtriya Samanta Dal -- filed their nominations from Khairagarh seat in Agra district.

SP's Rameshwar Singh Yadav filed his nomination from Aliganj seat in Etah district, besides Ms Sarita Devi of BJP from Karhal seat in Mainpuri district and Shri Pratap Singh of Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha from Rajpur seat in Kanpur Dehat.

SP's Virendra Dubey filed his nomination from Govind Nagar, Ram Prakash of BSP from Ghatampur and independent Arjun Prasad from Bilhaur (SC) seats all in Kanpur district.

No nominations were filed for the Bilaur Lok Sabha seat for which the byelection would be held along with the first phase of polling.

Governor T V Rajeswar, yesterday, had issued the notification for the election of 62 assembly seats to be held in the first phase.

March 20 is the last date of filing of nominations and on the next day scrutiny of papers would be done. Candidiates can withdraw nominations till March 23.
