Each training module would be of a week's duration with the total training hours being 40.

The alliance would enable NIIT have access to the latest sun technologies, tool, technical resources and curricula on Java and SML and Solaris OS system adminsitration.

Last year Sun forged tie up with NIIT to include JAVA in NIIT curricula.

Sun Microsystems Chief Learning Officer G Bhaskar said the initiative was the latest in Sun's drive to provide academic developers with the educaitonal tools and resources they need to cultivate important IT skills, participate in today's global economy and contribute to the innovation of new technologies.

As part of its NetworkLAB Curriculam NIIT would now offer training and certification on Solaris 10 Operating systems to students.

With the increasing number of demand by the IT sector which was estimated at two million over the next three years and 300,000 this year, the industry was grappling with the exceeding shortage of skilled manpower in emerging global technologies. NIIT through the alliance hoped to train around 50,000 people in specialised fields, Mr Thadani said.
