SMC resumes bus service to attract tourists

Surat, Mar 13 (UNI) In a bid to attract more tourists to the rich cultural heritage of Surat city, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to resume its bus service for city site-seeing.

The service was formally inaugurated here yesterday by Mayor Kanubhai Mavani and a student group from the Sharadha Yatan School in the city took a ride on it.

''The colourful and luxuriously designed bus named 'Surat Darshan' will conduct service from the 'maidan' in front of the 16th century Surat Castle, every Saturday and Sunday,'' SMC Commissioner Pankaj Joshi said.

The bus will take the tourists to the Sardar Patel Museum, Planetarium in Chowk Bazaar, SMC head quarters, Chintamani Jain Derasar, Mirzan Shami Mausoleum, all in Mugalsarai, Dutch and Armenian Cemeteries in Katargam, Kantareshwar Mahadev Temple, Sarthana Nature Park, Subhash Chandra Bose Lake in Bhora Bhagal, Merulakshmi Yantra Mandir in Rander Talwadi, Swaminarayan Temple in Adajan, Narmad Library in Ghod Dod Road, Indoor Stadium, Gaurav Path and Dumas.

The service would begin on 0930 hrs on the said days. The fare has been fixed at Rs 20 for tourists upto age 12 and Rs 40 for those above 12, sources said.
