Karunanidhi Trust sanctions relief to poor people

Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) Kalaignar Karunanidhi Trust today sanctioned an amount of Rs 2,20,000 from the interest it earned from its deposit account of Rs five crore in the bank as medical and educational assistance to 43 poor people in Tamil Nadu.

A release from DMK headquarters in Anna Arivalayam said the Trust had earlier sanctioned Rs 39,25,000 from the interest it gained from the deposit to the poor, downtrodden and toiling masses for their medical and educational assistance from November 2005 to January 2007.

It may be recalled that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had sanctioned Rs one crore of Rs five crore from the Trust to the South India Book Sellers and Publishers Association, while inaugurating the 30th Book Fair on January 10, 2007 in the city.

The Trust would spend the interest amount earned from the remaining Rs four crore deposit to assist the needy people time and again, the release added.
