'Gujarat assembly reminds of jungle raj'
Ahmedabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Speakers at a seminar on Parliamentary Democracy in Gujarat'' today lamented that happenings in the Gujarat Assembly reminded one of ''Jungle Raj''.
''When students of political science visit the state assembly, we teachers feel ashamed because of the commotion prevailing in the House,'' political scientist Dinesh Shukla said while participating in the seminar.
''What we teach as parliamentary democracy in political science, we find the reality completely different,'' he rued.
''Culture is the genesis of democracy, which is missing in Gujarat,'' Jan Vikas managing trustee Gagan Sethi said.
Human rights activist Adv Mukul Sinha, speaking on the occasion, remarked that the 2002 riots were a sour wound and its stench was still pervasive.
The seminar was hosted jointly by People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Insaf Trust, Nishane Savidhan and Punuruththan.
