Govind Nihalani to receive Kodak Technical Excellence award
Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) Acclaimed film-maker Govind Nihalani will be felicitated with the ''Kodak Technical Excellence'' award at the ongoing MAMI festival here.
Incidentally, Nihalani is one of those few technician-turned-filmmakers who has received more awards for filmmaking than camerawork.
Born in Karachi in 1940, Govind Nihalani and his family migrated to India after partition. He learnt his craft in a polytechnic in Bangalore.
Nihalani is best known for his film ''Ardh Satya'' which tells of the cop-gangster-politician nexus and the film remains a benchmark for other filmmakers. The film swept the National award for best film and other awards. ''Tamas'', set against the backdrop of partition, has also left a lasting impact.
Despite the current trend of glossy, over-the-top cinematography, Nihalani sticks to technical and aesthetic qualities that fit a film.
