DAN loses one seat in bypolls, Congress gains one
Kohima, Mar 13 (UNI) The ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) lost one seat while the Opposition Congress gained one in the Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar-II constituency bypolls.
With the results being declared yesterday, Congress candidate Kejong Chang was elected from Tuensang Sadar-II and Atomi Zhimomi of the NPF from Dimapur-I.
The present party position after the by-elections was Nagaland Peoples Front(NPF) 32, BJP five, the JD(U) two and Independent four while the members of the Opposition Congress rose to 17 from 16.
The number of the BJP members in the Nagaland Assembly reduced from seven to five with the party losing two seats in both the Assembly constituencies, polling for which were held on March 8.
Atomi Zhimomi would be the first member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to sit along with father Khekiho Zhimomi, presently holding the Industry and Commerce Ministry portfolio.
