Bhilwara, Mar 13 (UNI) In a incident reflecting the feudalitic mentality still prevailing in some Rajasthani villages, a Dalit bridegroom was forcibly made to alight from a horse.

According to police, the latest victim of social discrimination and ostracization of the Dalits is Roshanlal Reger of Salera village in Bhilwara district.

Police said Roshanlal's 'barat' was proceeding last night with the bridegroom on horse back. When the barat reached Rawla village dominated by upper castes, some people objected to a Dalit bridegroom on a horse back. They made to alight the bridegroom from the horse.

This led to an argument and altercation between the relatives of the bridegroom and the uppercaste people.

Seeing the situation going out of control Gangapur councillor and a relative of Roshanlal Reger, who was part of the barat, informed the Gangapur police of the incident. A police team led by SDM Anandilal Vaishnav, DYSP Rahunath Garg and SHO Ram Singh reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Later with police help the bridegroom proceeded to his marriage.

Police said on complaints by Roshanlal, the Ganganagar police have registered cases against eight people under various provisions of IPC and SC/ST act.
