Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) A review meeting called by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today decided that the Phase-I Project of diverting Godavari water to meet the drinking water needs of Hyderabad would be completed by 2009.

Tenders for the project would be invited by this year end, after studying the project report.

The Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited (WAPCOS), a Government of India Undertaking, entrusted with the feasibility of the project made a presentation to the Chief Minister.

According to WAPCOS, the projected drinking water requirement for the city would be about 30 TMC by 2031, excluding the water now available from the existing drinking water sources.

To meet this requirement of 30 TMC, WAPCOS suggested drawing of 7.33 TMC of water under the I Phase of the Project at the rate of 120 million gallons per day (MGD). Water could be tapped from Yellampalli at Sripada Sagar Reservoir.
