Vyyo partners StarHub in Singapore broadband project
SINGAPORE, Mar 12 (Reuters) U.S. broadband access equipment supplier Vyyo Inc. said on Monday it was partnering Singapore's StarHub Ltd. to develop next-generation broadband infrastructure for the city-state.
Vyyo said it would supply network gear to StarHub, Singapore's second-largest telecoms firm, which has been shortlisted to develop infrastructure for the city-state's new high-speed Internet highway.
Earlier this month, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the city-state's telecoms regulator, shortlisted 12 bidders for the project, including StarHub and market leader Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. .
This nationwide network will offer ultra-high speeds of one gigabit per second or more, and aims to provide affordable broadband for 95 percent of all homes and businesses by 2012.
''Vyyo's solution is the most cost-effective technology for the requirements of advanced broadband markets like Singapore,'' Avner Kol, Vyyo's Chief Operating Officer, told Reuters in an email.
