Over 10 lakh students appear for SSC, HSC exams in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Mar 12 (UNI) More than 10 lakh students today appeared for the School Secondary Certificate (Std X) and the Higher Secondary Certificate (Std XII) examinations across the state, amid tight security arrangements.

While 6.7 lakh took the SSC examinations, another 3.38 lakh students went for the the HSC exams. A total of 892 exam centres have been established for the purpose. Sensitive centres have been identified and flying squads will keep a vigil on the examination.

Of the total students appearing for the HSC exams, 58,398 were from the Science stream. Of the 6.7 lakh SSC examinees, 1.32 lakh were from the old course.

Practical examinations of Physics, Chemistry and Biology will begin from April 17.

Board chairman R K Pathak said elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the exams. Over one lakh staffers have been deployed for the conduct of the exams.

He said the Board's effort was to create conducive atmosphere for students to perform their best in the examinations and in this regard, it has issued instructions to all connected with the examinations that they should take care of students while enforcing rules to check smooth conduct of the examination.

In order to avoid problems in computerised totalling of papers, he said the examiners have been asked to write marks purely in decimal system.

The education board has introduced a system of Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) in subjects like Music, Drawing, Physical Education and Computer from this year and more subjects will be brought under OMR, he added.

The examinations of Std XII will get over by March 23 and that of Std X by March 26.
