One dead, nearly 325 hutments burnt in Sadar Bazaar fire
New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) A 46-year-old woman died and about 325 hutments were burnt in a major fire at a shanty cluster near Sadar Bazaar in Old Delhi late last night.
The body of the victim, Saroj, who lived in the jhuggi clusters, was found by the fire brigade personnel after the flames were brought under control at about 0530 hrs, said the Fire department.
The blaze, which began at 0010 hrs, took place in the hutments on Qutub Road near Old Delhi Railway station devoured about 325 shanties and five adjoining shops.
As many as 28 fire tenders battled for about five and a half hours to put out the fire. The operation ended at 1405 hrs today, the fire brigade added.
