Notorious criminal Syed Abid Hussain held

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (UNI) The City Police today apprehended a notorious criminal Syed Abid Hussain alias Ali Bhai, chief of inter-state gang operating from Dubai.

The Task Force apprehended him on receiving an intelligence report about his arrival in the city from Dubai, Commissioner Balwinder Singh said in a statement.

He was allegedly involved in kidnapping for ransom and murder in various states in the country. His gang was allegedly involved in many cases of kidnap and murder in Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other cities. The gang members include criminals from Uttar Pradesh, Maharastra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

Hussain went to Dubai in 1993 and was running a heavy machinery business used in construction works. During his stay in Dubai, he came into contact with one Abdul Qayyum Shaikh of Mumbai and Aftah Alam Khan of Uttar Pradesh and both of them were former aides of Mafia Don Dawood Ibrahim operating from Dubai, the Commissioner said.

Due to financial crisis in his business, he entered into criminal activities.

He came to Hyderabad in 2001 and masterminded the kidnapping of an industrialist's daughter in the city. However, police rescued the girl and arrested few members of the gang. However, Hussain, the prime accused, escaped to Dubai on fictitious passport, obtained in 1995.

After escaping to Dubai, he, along with Abdul Qayyum and Aftab Alam Khan based in Dubai, got involved in a number of serious offences. His brothers used to procure members for his activities and Hussain used to coordinate their activities from Dubai.

Meanwhile, police foiled another kidnap attempts on Director of Balaji Real Estates in 2004 and Managing Director of Pragathi Resorts in 2005 prompting him to shift his activites to Maharashtra, Mr Singh added.
