NCP, Congress emerge supreme in ZP, PS polls

Pune, Mar 12 (UNI) The NCP made a clean sweep in the Zilla Parishad (ZP) elections, winning 45 out of 75 seats in the district even as the Congress was leading in both ZP and Panchayat Samiti (PS) elections in Ahmednagar and emerged as the single largest party in Kolhapur and Sangli.

In Pune, the NCP is followed by Congress 13, Shiv Sena six, BJP three, JD two and Independents five. The result of one seat was still awaited.

The five NCP rebels, who contested the election as independents, will support their parent party.

In the PS election, the NCP is expected to get a majority as per the latest trends available here tonight.

In Ahmednagar, the Congress has bagged 31 of 75 ZP seats, followed by NCP 22, Shiv Sena six, BJP four and Others five. Results of the nine seats are yet to be declared, sources in the Election Office said.

In PS election, the Congress is expected to emerge as a single largest party as per the latest trends available tonight.

Meanwhile in Kolhapur, no party has secured absolute majority.

The Congress bagged the highest number of seats, 25, while NCP secured 18 in ZP polls.

In Sangli, the Congress got 30 seats in ZP elections, followed by NCP with 28.
