MADC dissolved by Court order; no voting rights to nominated members
Aizawl, Mar 12 (UNI) Governor Lt Gen (Retd) M M Lakhera has dissolved the Mara Autonomous District Council following a court order.
According to the High Court ruling last week, the nominated members of the council have no voting rights in a no-confidence motion.
Earlier, a Mizo National Front (MNF) party-nominated member had moved Guwahati High Court against the Governor's ruling. However, the court upheld the Governor's decision.
The MNF, an 11-member council, stood against the seven-member Mara Democratic Front and four-member Mizoram Congress Committee.
Former MP and president of Mara District Congress Committee Himphei said the MNF had been able to form the council only after the four nominated members were given voting rights by former Governor A R Kohli.
''Had it not been for the four nominated members, the council would have been dissolved long ago and a new election would have been held,'' Mr Hiphei said, adding that the election to the MADC is expected to be held in the next six months.
