FIEO urges TN to set up seperate export promotion board

Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) today urged the Tamil Nadu government to set up a seperate Tamil Nadu export promotion board and also announce an exclusive export promotion policy for the state.

During the first meeting of the newly constituted special task force under the chairmanship of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, FIEO Southern Region Chairman and Vice-President A Sakthivel insisted the government to come out with flexible labour law, through which contract labour should be allowed in the textile sector especially in apparel manufacturing units, which provide at least 200 days of employment in one year.

Mr Sakthivel requested the state government to set up training facilities for fabric designing, blending, garent designing, fabric processing and production tailoring as these were in constant demand.

The FIEO Chairman also highlighted the vast potential of Siddha medicines, for which a request had been submitted to the state government for setting up research facilities and establishing specific brands for overseas market promotion.

Mr Sakthivel urged the government to allow small and medium scale industries to set up windmill plants and allow them to draw power through LT lines.
